New Milford Homeless Shelter Coalition, Inc.
On a January evening in 2001 approximately 200 concerned residents of the Town of New Milford along with local clergy and Town Officials gathered together to discuss the needs of our neighbors that for whatever reason were living on the streets, doorways, or tents in the Town of New Milford. It was decided that evening that a temporary emergency shelter system was needed to offer a safe warm place to sleep at night through the winter months to our neighbors in their time of need.
During the first winter of our operation we served on an average 15 to 18 guests each night. Since that first year we have averaged 5 to 10 guests per night through out the winter months.
In December 2005 the New Milford Homeless Shelter Coalition incorporated and obtained its 501c-3 status as a not for profit corporation and in January 2006 elected our first Board of Director and adopted our By-Laws.
