Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Their Time of Need

At this time, we are not envisioning reopening the Shelter as a seasonal shelter in the churches due to the pandemic and the creation of a community liaison officer in the police department to work with individuals on the brink of experiencing homelessness
We have identified three ways we can help those in need and we have established committees to best achieve these goals: Financial assistance, moving assistance and furniture assistance (for more on these scroll down).
However, our work to assist vulnerable populations in New Milford continues.
The New Milford Homeless Shelter Coalition, Inc., along with its many volunteers and supporters, believes that every person has the right to safe, affordable, and legal housing. Our goal is to provide rent assistance, and aid in transitioning into a new home for those whose circumstances preclude such support.
This committee works with New Milford residents and provides volunteer help moving them into housing units when needed.
This committee works with Social Services and provides financial assistance grants for town residents in need. The requests are either for rent assistance, Security Deposit assistance, or mortgage payment assistance.
This committee works to store decent donated furniture to provide the basic needs of a resident who is moving into housing and is in need.
